In my final year project I received a brief to develop the prototype of a unique concept. With a given time restriction and to complete the project by myself.
I developed a prototype for an app called Eldcare which is a health app with the benefits of assisting seniors with their health tracking. It offers features as such:
And if given consent, all recorded data can be accessed by the doctor, to keep an eye on the patient'shealth whenever required.
My target audience is people over the age of 65, and upon doing research on my audience I found out the needs and app specifications for this audience.
During my research I figured that my audience mainly struggles to remembering tasks and events, which is why I implemented appointment, prescription, and medicine reminder. They also struggle remembering what the doctor advised them during a consultation, which is why I implemented Dr. note where a doctor can send voice notes to the patient, and they can be played back over and over.
I did additional research to ensure a tailored experience for my target audience, and found out specifications required for Apple Watch and iPhones, I ran a competitors analysis to find out how they are designing their UI and what can be improved, lastly I read blogs and posts by other UI designers who have designed for the elderly and implemented the tips they offered, some examples would be:
For my colour palette, I stuck to shades of blue, as blue represents trust and reliability. It has also been used in large medical industries such as the NHS.
Below is the colour palette I have created for my design. I planned to use a 60:30:10 ratio when it comes to the usage of my colours.
I created a prototype and requested my peers and teachers to review my prototype. After a few sessions of user testing and implementing improvements suggested by users and improvements my final design was ready for presentation.
Some additions were:
To complete my project, I created some promotional material which include a poster, which can be potentially displayed in billboards, underground stations, and bus stations. As well as a promotional video which highlights the features and abilities of the app. I have made the adverts clear and simple to understand, to ensure my target audience does not struggle understanding the features and usability of this app.
